From the bride: Colton and I met during college, while we were both working at the Gap, part-time. We had worked together for a few months when both of our past relationships fell through. We had been eyeing each other, but hadn’t sparked up much conversation. I think we were both too shy to make a move. A mutual friend and coworker finally invited us both out for drinks one night, and we made a date to see each other again the next day.
Colton proposed when we were taking a camping trip together, visiting Arizona and Utah over spring break. At the end of our trip, we were in Bryce Canyon, Utah, on a scenic drive, stopping at all the lookout points. We made our way up and to the opposite end of the park, and turned around. It was such a gorgeous trip. On the way back, Colton suggested that we take a photo together at what we thought was the most beautiful stop, Inspiration Point. He set up the tripod to take our photo overlooking the canyon, set a timer on the camera, and hopped in a picture with me. As the camera was going off, he knelt down and proposed. I was so surprised, I was smiling for the camera until the last few shots went off! He gave me a stunning, antique ring that had belonged to his great grandmother.
I thought that since Colton proposed on a vacation, that we ought to take another to get married. I wanted to do something different and exciting! Neither of us had been to Maui, and we both wanted to go, so that was that!
Our vision for the decor was retro tropical. I wanted our wedding to feel comfortable and casual. We love all things retro, and wanted a tropical flair, since we were in Hawaii. I think it fit our personalities and style perfectly.
We didn’t do much DIY for the wedding, as Darren made it so easy for us! We did print off menus and a sign for the cocktails from a template that I bought through Etsy.
Being in Maui was a dream. I would highly recommend considering a destination wedding to other brides to be!
We loved working with Darren and the Bliss team! Darren was so accommodating, genuine, and excited for us and the wedding. It was a pleasure working with him. Our wedding was everything I had envisioned and more!
From Bliss: Island infused tropical beauty with a retro glam flair–Stephanie and Colton’s Maui Wedding was a dream to help create. Our bride was a classic beauty in her sleek BHLDN lace wedding gown. Holding an emerald bouquet courtesy of Darren Keala of Petals, Stephanie made her way toward the oceanfront driftwood arch, woven with white flowers and rich greenery. Colton’s expression the moment he saw Stephanie walking toward him is the look every bride deserves to be greeted with–a tender mix of admiration, awe, and the satisfying shock of being unbelievably lucky enough to become this woman’s husband.
As the sun began to set behind the ocean, guests helped the newlyweds celebrate under the trees’ canopy illuminated by criss-cross strands of bistro lights. Terrariums sprouting greenery and succulents hung above the farm tables from the surrounding trees, held delicately by cream-colored macrame. A dark green and brown tropical-print table runner, created by Bliss, lined the wooden tables, accented by floral and succulent centerpieces.
One of the best parts about helping couples plan their wedding is getting to know them-gathering inspiration from their interests and style to help create a unique and special day that is all their own. Stephanie and Colton gravitate toward the beauty of the past–loving all things retro. Even Stephanie’s gorgeous engagement ring brings the past into the present–a family heirloom of Colton’s in the form of a stunning 1920’s art deco style ring. Merging their retro style with their love of the outdoors, and adding a dash of tropical flair, we were able to help them celebrate their love in a way we hope they never forget.
