For our Tropical Flowers Series, instead of doing one post on orchids alone, we’re going to tackle each type of orchid. First on our list (by no coincidence) is the Phalaenopsis orchid – also known as the moth orchid. Phalaenopsis orchids are my favourite flowers because they’re just so amazingly gorgeous and über-chic. These pretty blooms come in white, blush, purple, yellow and green. They can also be spotted or striped. Phalaenopsis orchids are very hardy and long-lasting which make them ideal to use in weddings.

1.The durability I mentioned makes phalaenopsis orchids very popular for bouquets. They’re also well-liked for the beautiful silhouette created when stems of these cascading beauties are gathered together.
2. Phalaenopsis orchids are tremendously beautiful even when used sparingly so you can comfortably incorporate them into your wedding in light touches if you’re on a restrained budget. Here, a few blooms added to a wedding cake creates a stunning effect. This is a handy DIY tutorial for creating paper orchids for your guest favor boxes, hair clips and more.
3.-5. These type of orchids are often used for tall centerpieces as seen in pic #5 but as pics #3 and #4 show, their extraordinary beauty is still projected quite nicely when used in low centerpieces as well. You can easily create a look of either opulent glamour or understated elegance.
6. I particularly like the use of these orchids in ceremony arches – especially for beach weddings to add that Tropical feel. They also make a stunning backdrop for your photos.
Here’s your colour inspiration around the use of these blooms:

We have a family friend that grows a few of these orchids in their garden- can you imagine how nice that is, to wake up every morning and look out your window to see this gorgeousness staring back at you!! Nothing in the world is as stunning as the amazing beauty found in Nature.
