A Color-Drenched Mexican Wedding in San Miguel de Allende Filled With Spring Blooms & Cultural Charm

Set in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, Renata and Agustin’s wedding was a vibrant celebration of love, culture, and the unmistakable charm of Mexico. Their vision—joyful spring colors, natural textures, and authentic regional details—came to life in an atmosphere that felt both elevated and deeply personal. From the moment guests entered the ceremony at the historic San Francisco Church to the last dance beneath ivory-draped ceilings and woven mimbre lanterns, the day radiated warmth and intention.

The couple chose to honor San Miguel’s rich landscape with florals and décor built around local materials: clay vases, woven baskets, desert vegetation, and towering mezquite trees that became a natural cathedral for cocktail hour. Penzi Weddings designed a reception that felt like a living painting—mimbre lamps glowing overhead, hand-painted dance floors, and candlelight flickering over cozy, organic tablescapes. Surrounded by friends and family, Renata and Agustin celebrated with bold margaritas, elevated Mexican cuisine, and unforgettable surprises, including traditional Mojigangas that swept the party into a joyful whirl.

Their love story began with an intimate lavender-lined proposal and culminated in a weekend full of celebrations—kicking off with a civil ceremony under a transparent tent illuminated by tin star lanterns. Every detail reflected who they are: warm, intentional, and endlessly in love.

“Every corner felt like San Miguel—authentic, warm, and alive with color.”

Wedding Colors: Pink, baby pink, hot pink, yellow, orange, ivory, green, lilac

Design Vision: Cheerful spring colors, mexican materials, lots of vegetation and cozy atmosphere.

Proposal Story: After 3 and a half years together, we took a day trip to Val’Quirico, a small touristic town near Puebla, Mexico. We spent the day there and later took a walk down a beautiful path of lavender on each side, where he got down on one knee. After the actual proposal, he had a surprise picnic planned inside an old Hacienda. It was decorated with pictures of us hanging from a beautiful teepee and had a delicious cheese board and bottle of wine to celebrate. It was the perfect intimate moment to enjoy for ourselves before we went back to Mexico city to celebrate in a small party with all of our friends and family.

Wedding Gown: Classic strapless mermaid cut with simple lace and 2 different tops (off the shoulder and one shoulder). Designer was Mexican, Viviana Urrea.

Food & Drink: Food & drink were served by Penzi. Everything was delicious. For the cocktail before entering the reception, we picked several flavors of margaritas, cantaritos (which is a traditional mexican drink with tequila served in a clay vase), gin, Mezcalitas, and several others. Canapés were delicious too, especially our favorite: mini potatoes with sour cream and caviar.

For the reception we picked a 4 course menu that was fresh because of the hot weather in may. We served a Palmito Ceviche as a starter, the second course was Grilled Octopus (which EVERYONE loved) and a Tuna tartar, Main was Short Rib with mashed potatoes and for dessert we had Dark chocolate tart and meringue.

Florals & Decor: Our ceremony was held in the beautiful San Francisco church in the heart of San Miguel, so we chose Gladiolas in big glass vases to keep it simple but elegant and highlight the beauty of the church itself. The isle looked spectacular.

For the reception, we chose a place that screamed San Miguel from start to finish. The place had a beautiful forest of Mezquites (typical trees from the area) that was perfect for the cocktail. Enormous trees and cactus filled every corner and a magical runway of Agaves was the cherry on top. Because of this, with Penzi we chose to decorate using typical Mexican materials and textures. For the tables we chose small clay vases in different sizes and shapes that Penzi has been creating over the years. We complemented it with glass vases for small candles and mimbre baskets.

For the ceiling, we chose to cover it with ivory fabric that fell beautifully all the way to the bottom and filled it with over 90 mimbre lamps of different shapes and sizes, some of them covered in flowers. This created a beautiful effect of lighting and a cozy atmosphere.

For the dance floor, we decided on a hand painted design with earthy colors that complemented the decoration and chose a huge wooden bar with a DJ booth that stood right beside it.

Songs: We went for the traditional wedding songs, coming out of the church with the classic wedding march.

Special Details/Memories: The day before the wedding, we had our civil wedding followed by an ice-breaker gathering in the Live Aqua Hotel in San Miguel. Penzi was also in charge of everything and it was a beautiful start to the best weekend of our lives. The most special part of it was the transparent tent filled with tin star lamps. We also surprised everyone with the traditional San Miguel Mojigangas in the middle of the party.
