From Debbie Hemingway of Designs By Hemingway: Our journey started in Honolulu, Hawaii and landed us on the doorsteps of Jose Marti International airport in Havana, Cuba. The feeling of being in a time warp began to creep in as soon as we stepped off the plane. Havana and the wanderlust of balmy Cuban nights have been a lifelong dream of mine that was finally becoming a reality now. The best way to explore Havana is on foot. The patina colors, narrow streets, beautiful crumbling buildings and vintage cars are a photographer’s dream! There is so much to explore here! The people were most welcoming and made us feel right at home.
Our first wedding inspiration shoot was styled at La Guarida in central Havana. The multi-levels of marble and wrought iron staircases were the inspiration for this shoot. I brought a collection of vintage brass candle
sticks from Hawaii and with beautiful Claire Pettibone dresses in tow, everything just fell into place after that. The lack of flowers was a bit of a disappointment but we foraged in the front yards of a few Cuban hosts who were more than accommodating to help us. Photographer Jeannemarie took the shoot onto the colorful streets in the afternoon with our beautiful Cuban models. It doesn’t matter what street you walk down in Havana, it is all magical!! There is so much to explore in Cuba, it’s a place to put on your wanderlust list!
