I thought it would be nice to start a series on flowers you can find around the island and to build inspiration boards for you based on those choices. We’ll start off by looking at- bougainvillea.

I’ve mentioned before that I was going to use bougainvillea for my wedding. Based on that, I decided on a palette of varying shades of purple. We switched to dendrobium orchids in the run-up to the wedding but I was lucky enough to be able to retain my palette. So keep in mind that you should have a back up in case your first choice of flowers falls through for whatever reason.
Now, in the same post I mentioned, I also talked about the fragility of bougainvillea (when it’s out of water)- not a worry when you’re working with a good florist. For your bouquet, keep the flowers in water as long as possible before the ceremony and place them in a vase of water at the reception.
Bougainvillea is absolutely stunning and judging by these pics, the pay-off from using these gorgeous flowers is well worth the care:
