From Heather Cook Elliott Photography: Lisia and Louis may live far away from the white sandy shores of Bahamas but their hearts are completely at home in the Caribbean. Lisia’s family is from Brazil and Louis’s family hails from Haiti. For these travel enthusiasts, the Bahamas was one of their most significant first trips together. When they met at a grad school program in Boston, neither one of them was looking for a partner in life. They were hesitant and started as friends but realized soon enough that each had found a partner – a partner for travel, hard work, healing, love, laughter and family. I am extremely proud to have been invited into their love story because these two do nothing lightly. Louis is intense and passionate and protective about Lisia and about all of those that attended their wedding. As a child, he lost both his parents but an amazing group of people rose up to be his family- now he has at least two moms, a big brother, plenty of aunts and uncles and all of them made it to his wedding, where he prioritized them in every way he could.
Lisia is Louis’ heart. One of the warmest women I have ever met, so obviously caring and compassionate and protective of him and all of the life-long friends in her life. I could see the pride in her eyes as she took in sight of the long tables of people who joined them on the beach for their wedding dinner. She was overjoyed and grateful with tears throughout the weekend. I adored her sweet wedding vows, acknowledging the amazing lesson that Louis and Star Wars had taught her – the dark side may seem to be winning but in the end light and love and hope always prevails.
