This past weekend one of nieces celebrated her birthday- so much fun! In the run-up to the party, my sister and I bought crepe paper to go with her theme (mermaids, if you please!) as well as balloons. These are some fun DIY projects I came across while looking for decorating ideas. I ended up doing the first three projects and scrapped a lame attempt at the fifth (I blame that one on lack of sleep, ha!).

  1. First stop was this cute Fringey Streamer tutorial from Oh Happy Day. Since I had the pre-cut crepe paper I also took a look at another set of instructions from Feast Fashion Faves. I used the fringey streamers to make a backdrop and found tutorials here and here which gave me some ideas on how to hang it up.
  2. The second DIY I tackled was this tassel garland. The garland pictured here from Linen, Lace & Love is actually made using tissue paper but I found a similar tutorial using crepe paper from Brewed Together.
  3. I hate balloons!!! Their spontaneous popping puts me on edge- a fact my brother-in-law thoroughly enjoyed teasing me about on Saturday! Nevertheless, I have always been in love with balloon streamers so I used scraps of leftover crepe paper and some ribbon for that. This is a project from Green Wedding Shoes (Katie Pritchard Photography) to get your creative juices going.
  4. I would have loved to do these ruffled streamers (tutorial here) but I have no idea how to use my mom’s sewing machine and it was a little to late to give it a whirl.
  5. These crepe paper flowers are gorgeous!! They were designed by Olivia Kanaley of A Field Journal via The Bride’s Cafe. Truth be told- the tutorial is easy to follow but I was working in the early hours of the am. and running on very little sleep so I somehow managed to mangle my cutouts. I also didn’t have enough crepe paper left back to try it again. It’s quite a lovely DIY so I will give it another go some other time.
  6. I also have my eye on this pretty crepe and watercolour flower tutorial from Craftberry Bush!

Hope this helps. Happy crafting!
